Fickle Feelings Force Future Failure

March 24, 2009 by jonnoscarwash

How to stay yourself under pressure!
When Krispy Kreme opened in Melbourne I was amazed at people lining up for 3 hours to buy donuts. A couple of months later at 1am at a McDonalds I waited behind 20 cars for drive thru and realised – these guys are the real hero’s – 25 years later!!!! They keep on keeping on. In these times of economic uncertainty there is pressure to add polishing or steam cleaning – which we have never done – because we wash cars. That’s what WE do we save time for people.

What do you do? What pressure has the economic crisis put on you to change who you really are?

Evolution is okay – if it doesn’t change your core competency. We decided to transition to waterless 3 years ago and have neever been busier.

We have doubled our business twice in the last few years and we have loved the transition to waterless or dri-wash.

Don’t be fickle with your core offering but be open to evolve…

How often should I polish my car?

November 4, 2008 by jonnoscarwash

Polishes are great. They protect your paintwork from the sun. The protect your duco from fading. Good quality canurba waxes will remove impurities from your paint.

Most polishes will recomend a 3-4 times per year application. However with Style Magic Spray & Wipe because it is ph neuatral – not acidic or alkaline – you only need to polish your car once per year. Style Magic will never remove the natural polish or paint protection. It is safe and excellent for your car.

This week a friend of mine used Style Magic for the first time on his Alfa and told me that it looked like glass and that it had been polished 8 months ago and after using Style Magic looked better than ever.

Returning to Customer Service

November 3, 2008 by jonnoscarwash

The death of customer service could have been the title of this short blog. When did you leave a cinema or restaurant or shop and say “that was amazing!”. The service was perfect. The staff member remembered my name. I am not saying that Jonno’s Car Wash has perfect customer service, however we do try to maintain satisfaction levels and meet the expectation we started with and that is high!

(Often the mistake is made to exceed and keep exeeding expectations. I don’t think this is necessary. Focus on your core competencies and MAINTAIN the expectations that you set. Make sure they are higher than the competitions ability to achieve them).

We under-charge on purpose. We charge $39 for a car wash that we know is worth $50. We blacken the tyres even when it’s not being paid for. We often (9/10) wax a car for free. We take pride in our work and we can afford to because – we are a small business.

I hope that this article inspired all of us, as employees and SME’s to give a little extra.

Doesn’t a waterless car wash scratch the car?

October 28, 2008 by jonnoscarwash

This is my second post and also this is the second most common question I am asked as a car wash professional.

As a mobile car wash operator in Melbourne I am often approached by interested pedestrians and companies who want to know how I clean the car without water and without scratching.

Basically when you have a dirty car the dirt, grease and grime is connected to the paint. It touches the duco and sticks. Bird pooh, bugs and possum urine also stick closely to the paintwork and work their way into the paintwork.

When you use water, be it high pressure or low pressure, using a Karcher or a hose, you are moving the dirt across the surface of the car and therefore scratching the car. In fact, water is the most likely way to scratch your car!

When you use a natural, ph (neutral) balanced product like Style Magic you actually cause the dirt, grease and grime to lift off the surface of the car and then you are able to move it off by wiping the car.

Our Victorian distribution site for Style Magic Spray & Wipe discribes the process this way:

In simple terms – the formulation ‘LUBRICATES & LIFTS‘ the debris off surfaces, almost like making it ‘float’. When the debris meets a clean, damp (very well wrung) quality chamois, it gets attracted into it. That is why it seems so easy to simply spray and ‘wipe off’ dirt without scratching! If you are still skeptical speak to one of our happy customers and read the testimonies online.

You have to see it to believe it!

How do you clean a car without water?

October 28, 2008 by jonnoscarwash

Hi and welcome to our first post. This question is one that I always get asked as a professional car detailer, washer.

The short answer is you can, using many different means. The first means is that you spray a waterless car wash on the surface of the car and wipe the dirt off using a micro-fibre chamois or cloth. This is the safest way to clean a car as the waterless products actually break down the dirt and lift the dirt off the surface of the car.

Traditional cleaning, using high pressure water, scratches the paintwork because the dirt is still attached to the duco. When you spray Style Magic Spray & Wipe on to your duco the paint is protected and all of the dirt is removed with minimal or no friction.

Becasue we use only ulra-microfibre cloths your paintwork is doubly protected as the clothes trap the dirt and clean and lift the dirt compounding the effect of the Nature’s Style Magic.

If you are still nervous about washing your car without water you should have a look at the video on our partner site.
